Uncle Nate Makes Good Soup

Lately, I have taken a very relaxed approach to introducing Aero to the joys of food. The 'official bib, highchair, bowl, spoon routine just did not pique his interest. He seemed bored by the entire set up and would not take more than one or two licks. I think he only did that 'cause I made such a production of it that he needed to throw momma a bone.
Now, I simply offer him food I am eating, where I am eating. Since my DR table has converted to my work space, I am oft found eating meals, cross-legged on the floor, near the coffee table. Tonight's dinner was a grilled ham & brie sandwich (honestly, the fanciest grilled cheese I have ever concocted) and a squash soup. Nate made me the soup months ago when Aero was still in the hospital. I froze it and here it was, coming in so handy, with the freezer cache of meals almost gone.
Aero lay beside me playing on the floor when I held out my pinky finger coated in soup. "Wanna try"? He sticks out his tiny pink tongue for me to place my offering. Two, three, four, five more tongue licks...I am amazed but playing it cool. He turns his head and that his signal for game over. I finished the soup, placed my bowl on the floor and went to the kitchen for some water.

This is what I found upon my return.

I guess the key to teaching your child the joy of food is to make sure that it is prepared by a former executive chef of a 5 star restaurant.

Thank you Uncle Nate. You make good soup.

Random'ness

We are getting a new car! I am so freakn' excited to soon drive an automatic, 4 door, gently used sedan. Jeez, never, ever thought I would say those words!

I am so enthralled that Aero is a robust, healthy, thriving baby. But, lugging a 20 lb robust, healthy, thriving baby in a 7 lb car seat in and out, out and in of our 2 door Honda Civic produces a cranky back and shoulders. Oh well, my arms are pretty buff (can't say the same for my gut).

On that note, wow, I really am eating for 2! Seriously. I love food these days. Heck, I crave dessert after my protein overload breakfast, two scrambled eggs with lots of grated cheese and bakery toast with yummy butter is my a.m. staple. It is necessary for my rolling on the floor, making up silly songs, toting the 20 pounder days. Thank the universe for all of you kind souls who have provided me with food. I have enjoyed and appreciated every single morsel. Just look at the beauty you have created.

I Heart Carrots

Food, glorious, fresh, organic, tasty, nutrient-dense, food. Having fun tonight steaming, mashing, seasoning, adding copious amounts of butter to a garden fresh carrot. Thus far, Aero has only experienced baby puree from a jar. What was I thinking? How could my progeny fall in love with food without the addition of butter (grass fed, nonetheless) and sea salt? Or, without it being homemade and a labor of love? I do hope he likes his dinner...
